When one makes a mind to jump into the arena of preparing for UGC-NET, many of us may wonder where to start from? where to get material from? What to study? Especially in the emerging subjects like Tourism. Here are some guidelines that may be helpful for you.
The best point to start from is:
Take the print outs of the syllabi of all the three papers PAPER 1, PAPER 2 and PAPER 3 firstly and study it carefully.
Proceed your studies according to syllabi. You can have a look at below given distribution table about the topics covered in the previous question paper and the questions asked from these respective topics.
About Study Material:
I highly recommend you NOT to read any competitive book (Arihant/Trueman’s or any other) for paper 2 and paper 3 as most of the answers and material given therein is WRONG OR OUT OF CONTEXT.
However, you should study either Madaan's book of Pearson publication(click here to follow the link to Amazon) or Trueman’s book(click here to follow the link to Amazon) for paper 1, they are very helpful and not errorful.
Apart from the competitive book(Pearson or Trueman’s) for paper 1, you should have a look at youtube videos especially by Examrace(Tricks and material for paper 1 Expected questions in 2017 ), you can look for some more helpful videos apart though and study from the internet according to the syllabus.
Paper 2 and 3 have the same syllabus but there are some differences on how the questions are asked. Paper 2 is mostly of fact oriented but paper 3 is generally based on comprehension and deep understanding of the subject.
These (1 and 2) could largely be divided into two segments; first the theoretical or practical part which you can find in some tourism text books and the second is generally from the current tourism events or questions related to destinations/organisations which is very hard to find in the text books, not at least in a single one.
So, it is relatively easy to locate the first category and it could be covered by any good Tourism Dictionary or Handbook or Encyclopedia for example, A Dictionary of Travel and Tourism Terminology by Allan Beaver or Encyclopedia of Tourism by Jafar Jafari ; a soft copy of these should be available in Libgen which you can download as the hard copies could be found very costly but if you can buy they will be for lifetime.( The Encyclopedia by Jafar Jafari costs about 50000, which is impossible to buy also it's lengthy so Don't buy but better download it. However, you can buy A Dictionary of Travel and Tourism Terminology by Allan Beaver which is cheap about Rs. 1200 and also very suitable for NET exam purpose).
And for the second part the best way to study from the internet by preparing your notes in a systematic manner for example for 36 world heritage site to remember better their order and year of inscription and name you must arrange them in a systematic order as it is given here (click to follow).
Important Notes:
There is NO negative marking in any of the papers so attempt all the questions.
Manage your time well so that you could do the above especially for the first paper.
Note that There will be 50 questions in first and second papers and 75 in the third paper this time, all mandatory.
Also, there are no passing criteria in each paper as it has been lifted off and now you will have to score at least 40% in toto(in paper1+paper2+paper3 together) in order to pass the exam.
Don’t confuse it with qualifying NET which will be top 6% in your respective category amongst those passed it i.e. who all have scored 40% altogether in three papers.
Always study from authentic sources like organizations website or some government websites.
About 50% questions are repeated every time from the previous year papers so go through all the previous year question papers and answer keys available at http://cbsenet.nic.in and www.ugcnetonline.in .
This is not always true but it is in most of the cases that the most explained/longest amongst the options is the key(right answer) so go for it in case you don’t know the correct answer.
Sometimes you may find(as per your reasoning or knowledge) that there are many consecutive questions having the same answer, for example, you may find that questions numbered from 7 to 13 having answer ‘A’. In this case, don’t reluctant of writing the same answer as most of us may think how can these many questions having the same answer but there could be the case as the questions CBSE/UGC receives it reshuffles it randomly so there is no human involvement in this matter.
If you have any doubts or suggestions please comment below.
The is the analysis of Net question Paper 2 and Net Question Paper 3 for January 2017 for Tourism, listing all the topics covered in the papers and the number of questions asked from the respective topics in paper 2 and 3.
